Starbucks Beats Veteran Hiring Goal

Starbucks has met its goal to hire 10,000 military veterans and spouses more than a year ahead of schedule and is upping the original target to 25,000 by 2025.

The Seattle-based coffee company also plans to open 100 more stores near major military bases in the next five years. Known as Military Family Stores, these locations will be staffed by veterans and military spouses.

“I’ve had the privilege to meet a number of the great men and women veterans who we’ve hired,” said Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson at the company’s annual shareholders meeting in March. “It’s clear to me that they make us a better company with their discipline, their experience, their knowledge and their commitment to what they do. They are mission-driven and they are wonderful, wonderful partners.”

The Seattle-based coffee company, which rolled out its military hiring initiative in 2013, will also partner with No One Left Behind, an organization that helps to resettle interpreters who served alongside the U.S. military in Iraq and Afghanistan and their families. The partnership also aligns with Starbucks’ commitment to hire 10,000 refugees at its locations in 75 countries over the next five years.
